Your Military Recruiter has a QUOTA to fill…

Do you ever wonder what you’re NOT being told?

Learn the facts before you enlist, register for the draft, or report for delayed entry.

Don’t Gamble With Your Life!

Learn The Facts!

Startling Facts About the Draft

So you think that the selective service draft is a thing of the past…

Fact #1

Plans that are already drawn up could have you in boot camp before the month is out. It would only take word from Washington.

Myth #1

Even if I’m drafted I can avoid serving by staying in college.

Reality

Nope. The best case is that you can finish the year if you’re a senior. The worst (and most likely) case is that you’ll be required to report for duty at the end of your current semester!

Myth #2

There are enough volunteers serving already that there isn’t a need for the draft.

Reality

Between Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti, Korea, the Balkans, and everywhere else, our military is stretched very thin and enlistment is down.

Myth #3

Being female (or having a medical condition, or not being a U.S. citizen, or being an ex-felon) means I’m safe from the draft.

Reality

Don’t bet on it! Call an Alternatives to Military Service Network counselor for the facts about the draft BEFORE it’s too late.

What to Think about Before Registering for the Draft

You’ve got a BIG decision to make.

Fact #2

Federal Law says that every male must register for the armed services draft within 6 months of turning age 18.

Fact #3

You must be registered for the draft to participate in any program receiving federal money, such as the federal employment and education opportunities of the Job Corps, Forestry Service, and college grant monies.

Fact # 4

The government tells you that you must register but they don’t tell you how to register so that YOUR interests are protected.

Fact # 5

Throughout U.S. history patriotic individuals have taken a stand against war as a way to solve conflict.

An Alternatives to Military Service Network counselor can discuss with you how to register as a conscientious objector without harming your future.

What to Think About Before Enlisting

So you want adventure, training, and money for college… Just remember that

your recruiter has a QUOTA to fill.

Myth #4

Military service is a great way to get job training.

Reality:

Most military jobs are not directly transferable to the business world. Keep in mind what then Secretary of the Defense, Dick Cheney stated about the military: “It’s not a jobs program.”

Myth #5

Military service is a great way to earn money to pay for your education.

Reality

100% of Montgomery G.I. Bill participants buy their way into the program for $1,200 but only 35% of them ever qualify for or enjoy any benefit. The military actually MAKES money on this program!

Myth #6

You enlisted under the delayed entry program and you can’t back out.

Reality

You’re not legally in the service until you actually report to Boot Camp. Until that time you’re free to back out.

Myth #7

There’s nobody around who can explain the fine print.

Reality

An Alternatives to Military Service Network counselor can fill you in on the FACTS about enlistment.
