ALTERNATIVES to MILITARY SERVICE NETWORK (AMS Network)
Most Americans place complete trust in their school system to serve the best interest of the student and his/her future. However, are students being served best when military recruiters use our schools as a military storefront?
The St. Louis Friends Meeting, Veteran's for Peace, the Human Action Service, the St. Louis Area American Friends Service Committee and other local religious, peace and justice organizations, unions and individuals have formed the Alternatives to Military Service (AMS) to offer students, parents, teachers and other interested parties balanced information about military service.
Currently, sixteen, seventeen and eighteen year old students are being pursued and persuaded by trained and well-funded salespeople, the military recruiters. Our children are extremely vulnerable at this age. They are risk takers, seekers of adventure and consider themselves invincible. They make prime customers for recruiters who need to fill ever-increasing quotas. Our intention is to give students some viable alternatives to military service and to offer the other side of the military story.
Equipped with knowledge of the favorable decisions in the US Circuit and Federal District Courts appeals in the states of California, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Illinois, we seek equal access into Missouri Public schools.
